We returned to out regiment at Camp Falcon, just Northwest of Oran after debriefing by Colonel Robert Murphy, where he cautioned us that we officially, “were never in Spanish Morocco”. However LT Snyderwine greeted our return circumspectly. He said he was instructed not to ask where we had been, and LTC Kelleher (1^st Battalion executive officer) had told him to give us a three-day excusal from duties. Snyderwine also rather off-handedly said he read in the newspaper that “Somebody” had landed on the Tres Forcas peninsula in Morocco, and destroyed some kind of a German outpost in a lighthouse there, and then gotten clean away without being identified. Snyderwine’s gaze passed over the Luger which Crowinshield was fondling, and as he walked away, Snyderwine said, “Whoever pulled that bit of business off did a nice bit of Soldiering”.

10 January 1943

We departed Oran via truck to train depot, then travelled by train to Tunisia.

13 January 1943

We boarded American trucks in Tunisia. Travelling through a cold and snowy night, we arrived at Sbeitia, by way of Tabitha, on 14 January 1943. The Squad performed routine garrison and camp activities for the rest of the month and into February.
